Welcome to the Drunken Elephant Mara - A Bush Experience Like No Other

Drunken Elephant Mara is set within a natural forest a stone’s throw away from Sekenani Gate is a true bush experience. The camp is located 2 km from The Maasai Mara National Reserve. The camp consists of seven guest tents, five of which accommodate 2 adults each and 2 accommodate 4 adults each. Our tents are all en-suite, ensuring that you enjoy the luxury of home ‘safaris style’. The hot water is heated over a log fire connected to your bathroom for when you want to enjoy your bath. Especially hand-crafted for you, home made and freshly cooked, all meals are served on a set menu and drinks are available from our cash bar to complement the safari experience.

Our tents are lit by led lighting which run off solar powered batteries, to ensure that you have electricity 24 hours, we do run our generator from 6:30pm to 10:00pm daily. Guests can enjoy the romance of being serenaded under the stars – a truly authentic bush camp experience.

Maasai Mara

Maasai Mara National Reserve is 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) and with the addition of the conservancies and the area is at least twice the size. The park has more than 95 species of mammals and 570 recorded species of birds.

Wildebeest Migration

When booking your safari, ensure that you have Maasai Mara booked in your itinerary. The wildebeest migration is one of the items you have do add to your bucket list. Best time to be in Kenya for it is JULY - OCTOBER although Kenya is a great year round destination.

The name Maasai Mara comes from two words. 'Maasai' comes from the Maasai tribe, nomadic inhabitants of the area and the word 'Mara' is their word for 'spotted', referring to the ubiquitous flat topped acacia trees, shrubs and bushes that dot the landscape across most of the reserve.

Although it only comprises of 0.01 % of the total Africa landmass, you are able to see more than 40% of Africa’s mammals. Guests are able to see all wild cats-lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes and a variety of other species while in their natural habitat.
